The Continuum Robotics Laboratory (CRL) and the Medical Computer Vision and Robotics (MEDCVR) research group at the University of Toronto jointly invite applications for a fully funded postdoctoral researcher position. At CRL, we create innovative continuum robot designs with novel features such as drastically increased motion capabilities through extensibility, adjustable stiffness through scale sheaths, and higher accuracy through parallel structures. Furthermore, we are investigating real-time methods for modeling, motion planning and task- and situation adaptive control of continuum robots as well as immersive human robot interfaces for intuitive interaction and collaborative manipulation. For this position, we collaborate with the MEDCVR for real-time tip pose control using computer vision as well as medical scene understanding, e.g., automatic bleeding spot detection. The postdoctoral researcher should have a genuine interest in continuum robot control on a system level as well as endoscopic and microscopic computer vision. The start date is flexible (ideally asap) and positions are initially for 12 months.
Applicants should have a PhD degree, a strong computer science background, significant hands-on experience in (continuum) robotics and vision-based control, with emphasis on applications in interventional medicine and surgery. We are seeking for a person with high motivation, exceptional communication skills, and outstanding analytical skills. A publication record in high-impact conferences and journals in computer vision and robotics is required.
Applications (assembled as a single PDF file) should contain
- a motivation letter
- a complete CV
- university transcripts
- names and contact information of three references (expected to provide letters of recommendation)
- copies of up to three relevant scientific papers
Email your application to firstname.lastname@example.org with subject line “[jobs] Postdoc application – your name”. Applications received before July 15, 2021 will be fully considered.
