Establishment of an Experimental Setup for Robot Assisted Laser Osteotomy with Corresponding Simulation Environment for Optimization of all Relevant Parameters

Abstract

Establishing CO2 laser ablation as a procedure for cutting tissue in the operation theatre requires the accurate plan-ning and simulation of the intervention in advance. Keeping the position and focal distance of the laser stable in re-spect to the surgical field is one of the key issues, which necessitates means of robot assisted surgery. This paper de-scribes the development of a planning and simulation environment for robot assisted laser osteotomy, for optimizing all relevant parameters for this complex setup (e.g. configuration, path planning, placement). Furthermore our first expe-rimental setup is presented.
