Setup and experimental trial for robot-assisted laser cochleostomy

Abstract

Precise bone ablation is a key issue for minimal traumatic cochl-eostomy. Recently it has been shown that short pulsed CO2laser boneablation is a promising method for microsurgical hard tissue treat-ments [1]. Especially to preserve residual hearing the protection of thelining membrane of the cochlea is mandatory. In a laboratory setupwe have already shown, that it is possible to preserve boundary layersduring laser ablation using visual control together with image pro-cessing techniques [2]. In order to evaluate operating room (OR)-feasibility we are presenting a method for accurate positioning of thelaser by means of robot assisted surgery in this contribution. Methods
