Thais Baena Moura

Thais Baena Moura is an international M.Sc. student in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department at the University of Toronto. In addition, she is a member of the Continuum Robotics Lab (CRL) and the RADIS Lab at St. Michael's Hospital (SMH).

Thais completed her bachelors' degree at University Federal of Santa (UFSC) Catarina, Brazil, majoring in mechatronics engineering. She started her research career as an undergrad when she joined the laboratory of embedded systems at UFSC. There she was part of antenna design and optimization for nanosatellite communication research and after in Brain signal conditioning to control an electrical kart. Furthermore, she was part of a robotic development team in the Werkzeugmaschinenlabor (WZL) at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH) in Germany. She worked in the industry for one year at Whirlpool as a test software engineer.

It was her time working with robots and Brain signal that sparked her interest in combining both fields which led her to the CRL and RADIS teams. Her research focuses on testing communication systems for remote robot neurointerventional procedures in collaboration with Dr. Vitor Pereira at SMH.
