The Continuum Robotics Lab team recently had the pleasure of joining our friends from the Diller Microrobotics Lab for an exciting and fun-filled curling session at the High Park Club. With expert instructors guiding us, we took to the ice, ready to apply our robotics knowledge in a new and unique setting.

As researchers, we couldn’t help but see the parallels between robotics and curling. Planning the trajectories for the rocks, considering the forces and torques at play, and using a continuous sweeping motion with the brushes to optimize the course of the rocks felt like a natural extension of our work in the lab!

The friendly competition brought out the best in everyone, with lots of laughter and good-natured rivalry. It was a fantastic opportunity to bond as a team and with our colleagues from the Diller Microrobotics Lab.

After the games, we gathered for a social event to share our experiences on the ice and discuss our research. It was a great reminder of the importance of collaboration and camaraderie in both our professional and personal lives.

We’re already looking forward to our next outing and the chance to further explore the intersection of robotics and sports!
