We are thrilled to announce that our paper, State Estimation for Continuum Multirobot Systems on SE(3), has received the King-Sun Fu Memorial Best Paper Award Honorable Mention from the IEEE Transactions on Robotics (T-Ro). The award was announced at the 2026 IEEE International Conference on Robotics & Automation in Vienna, Austria. It recognizes papers published in T-RO that demonstrate exceptional technical merit, originality, potential impact, clarity of presentation, and practical significance.

This work originated from Dr. Sven Lilge’s PhD research and is part of our ongoing collaboration with Professor Tim Barfoot’s group on state estimation for continuum robotics. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first continuum robotics paper to receive an Honorable Mention for this prestigious award. We are grateful to the reviewers, editors, and the T-RO editorial board for their support and recognition. The paper is available here.

In related news, Jessica Burgner-Kahrs served as a co-organizer and invited speaker at the Workshop on AI Driven Soft Robotics: Innovations, Challenges, and Future Directions held at ICRA 2026. As Jessica was unable to attend due to other commitments, Spencer Teetaert travelled to Vienna with colleagues from the University of Toronto Robotics Institute and delivered her invited talk on her behalf, representing CRL. Thank you, Spencer, for doing an excellent job representing our group on the international stage!
