We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Tongjia Zheng, Postdoctoral Fellow at CRL since 2024, has been awarded the Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto, starting May 1. This prestigious program supports early-career researchers in engineering, mathematics, and the natural sciences by providing advanced tools in artificial intelligence.

Dr. Zheng’s research builds on a strong foundation in continuum mechanics and control theory, and extends into integrating AI for the design and control of soft continuum robotic systems. Through this fellowship, he will develop continuum robotic swimmers for water quality monitoring, focusing on the co-design of swimming gaits and robot morphology to enable efficient, passive locomotion in complex fluid environments.
