CRL members just returned from the 2026 IEEE - RAS International Conference on Soft Robotics in Kanazawa, Japan. This year Ella Walsh, Spencer Teetaert, and Dr. Reinhard Grassmann shared several of our latest research contributions:

  • Spencer Teetaert, Sven Lilge, Jessica Burgner-Kahrs, Timothy Barfoot: A Sliding-Window Filter for Online Continuous-Time Continuum Robot State Estimation
  • Reinhard M. Grassmann, Jessica Burgner-Kahrs: Using Clarke Transform to Create a Framework on the Manifold: From Sampling via Trajectory Generation to Controls
  • Ella Walsh, Spencer Teetaert, Eric Diller, Timothy Barfoot, Jessica Burgner-Kahrs: Sliding Sensors: Configurable Confidence in State Estimation for Continuum Robots

For Ella and Spencer, this was their first travel to Japan and first attendance of RoboSoft. A particularly memorable trip as they presented their work on continuum robot state estimation, sensing, and control, and engaged with the international soft robotics community for the first time. Lab alumni Reinhard, now a postdoctoral researcher at MBZUAI, presented work from his PhD on the Clarke transform as a framework for sampling, trajectory generation and control.
